Iris Balodis

Iris began practicing Ashtanga at the Yoga Sanctuary and the Downward Dog in Toronto 9 years ago. She has practiced with Carolyn Johanson at Path Yoga in Kingston, Ontario as well as with Cynthia Funk and Ron Reid in Toronto. Like many other people, Iris first found the physical challenges of Ashtanga drew her to the practice, but then began to notice other changes that yoga influenced in her self-awareness and motivation.

Iris BalodisIris has always been impressed at the comprehensive nature of the Ashtanga practice; the application of flexibility, strength and stamina builds a remarkable foundation for affecting action and behaviour. Her classes focus on moving through the traditional Primary Series, respecting the classic asanas with focus on the breath and on concentration. At the same time, she tries to bring a sense of experimentation and playfulness to the class; seemingly odd asanas slowly become natural and influential as limitations change. Iris is indebted to all of her inspiring mentors, the amazing students and the yoga community that have all become a part of her life in the past decade. Namasté.
