Advanced Asana and Assisting Training

The Advanced Asana and Assisting Training is a 5-day teacher training designed to help teachers and advanced students understand the art of sequencing and assisting advanced poses, to practice and teach intermediate and advanced asana for different levels, and to consider the needs of students with special needs and injuries. Immerse yourself and up-level your desire and commitment to teaching.

Eligible Participants

Yoga teachers and advanced practitioners from any lineage are eligible to participate. Trainees must have a regular personal practice and be ready to move deeper within themselves and assist others in the discovery of a deeper level of the physical, emotional and spiritual benefits of yoga.

Training Overview

Morning Session: Meditation, Asana and Assisting Advanced Poses
Each day starts off with meditation to set the intent for the day and create the space for healing and connection, followed by an intensive practice that includes advanced asana and hands-on assisting instruction. The intensives are structured such that trainees learn to work with others to gain hands on experience with spotting, assisting (to keep students safe as they learn advanced poses), up-leveling and modifying advanced arm balances, backbends, hip openers, inversions, and twists. We will emphasize the importance of coaching and assisting the basic moves of a pose in an advanced way. The intensives are also a sanctuary where you can feel inspired to go beyond your perceived limitations. Injuries and special needs are addressed so that each trainee experiences these classes as part of his or her own healing practice and viscerally experiences how they can modify poses for their students.

Afternoon Session: Teaching Skills
The afternoon sessions are dedicated to improving your teaching skills and working with the different injuries, abilities, and challenges your students will bring to the yoga room. You will learn:
Assisting: Instead of using hands-on assisting as a fix or an adjustment, trainees will learn work with a student to effect change within an asana, understanding that this process is a 50/50 connection and interaction.
Class Construction: Going beyond basic sequencing by delving into the principles of theming and sequencing for the setup and optimal implementation of advanced poses.
How to Prioritize: Teaching is one big multi-task. Students will learn how to prioritize where to put their attention based on their personal teaching skill.
To Speak Easily: Trainees will learn how to overcome habitual speech and breathing patterns in order to communicate more clearly and authentically.
To Work with Injuries and Classroom Challenges in Real Time: Trainees will greatly increase their skill working with pregnancy and injuries including back, shoulder, knee, sciatic and hamstring problems as well as post-surgical rehabilitation. Trainees will learn how to manage the injuries they deal with on a daily basis.
How to Evolve as a teacher: Trainees will learn how to move forward on their personal teaching path. Honing their goals and vision and creating a plan for the next phase of their yoga career.
