MA YOGA: Prenatal Yoga

An in depth specialized prenatal yoga training for yoga teachers and women in the birthing field, MA YOGA Prenatal Yoga is an empowering technique that reinforces the inner resources and innate wisdom of the body and mind as preparation for birthing and mothering. The intense demands of birthing and mothering require a practice that is strengthening as well as restorative for body and soul. A balanced spectrum of breathing (pranayama), childbirth preparation techniques, and special asanas (poses) are included in each class. By cultivating mindfulness and awareness in the moment and participating in a community of other mothers-to-be, a woman can begin to prepare for this exciting transformation in life.

About the Instructors

Mia Borgatta attended her first birth as a doula and received her Yoga Certification in 1989. The merging of these two disciplines has resulted in the Ma Yoga prenatal technique, an invigorating and empowering practice that includes instinctive positioning and movement in preparation for birth. She has taught prenatal yoga privately since 1994, at the original Jivamukti Yoga Center (1998-2003) where she pioneered one of the first prenatal yoga programs in NYC, and since 2003 at Lila Yoga, Dharma & Wellness in NYC, where she directs the Prenatal & Postpartum Yoga program. As a labor support doula she has attended over 120 births and applies the depth of these experiences to her teaching. She is a mother to spirited and inspiring Jaya, born at home in 1994. She teaches Open Yoga privately and at The Mark Morris School of Dance and is a licensed Massage Therapist.

Testimonials

Mia is one of, if not the, most sought out and respected prenatal yoga gurus in New York City. Her authenticity and vast knowledge as a prenatal yoga teacher and doula is unsurpassed. After completing my prenatal training and apprenticeship with Mia I immediately hired her to certify teachers in training who were studying with me in prenatal yoga. I am grateful to have her as my teacher.
Jennifer Kohl, Director, Lotus Yoga, Montclair, New Jersey

Mia Borgatta's grounded presence, focused approach and experienced wisdom are valuable assets to aspiring prenatal yoga instructors. As a Director of a yoga studio, I come across many prenatal yoga instructors. Having studied with Mia in her Ma Yoga Teacher Training I can affirm that Mia is a gift to both expectant moms and those seeking to teach Ma Yoga. Mia Borgatta is a gift to women and a teacher of teachers!
Emily Conradson, Director, Om Factory NYC

I practiced prenatal yoga with Mia throughout the second half of my pregnancy. Her classes taught me to open inward to the physical-emotional-spiritual growth of my baby, to slow down and soften my practice, and to have a sense of humor about my body after many years of a regular ashtanga-style yoga practice. She nurtured each student individually and also the group of us as a whole. It was exciting to participate in her prenatal teacher training after the birth of my son, and to expand into the role of teaching prenatal yoga. Mia is a gifted teacher who is very practical and down-to-earth in passing along her knowledge and experience to moms and moms-to-be.
Danielle L'Heureux, Yoga Teacher and Mother, New York City

Mia Borgatta's Ma Yoga training teaches that women's pregnant bodies are strong. In addition to yoga postures and breathing, she incorporates practical exercises that expectant mom's can do to prepare for labor and delivery. Undoubtedly Mia's years of experiences as a doula and yoga teacher make her training more encompassing than most.
