The MBSR course is an experiential course that systematically teaches you mindfulness techniques that you can apply to your everyday life.
No experience necessary.
The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program is a life-affirming course in conscious living that has helped tens of thousands of people to cope with the stresses of life. It was developed in 1979 by John Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center Stress Reduction Clinic. This program teaches you how to take charge of your life by learning to work consciously, systematically and skillfully with all kinds of stress including sleep disturbances, chronic pain, illness as well as relationship stress, financial stress, job stress and the challenges and demands of daily life.
The Stress Reduction Program consists of eight weekly 2.5-hour sessions and one 4-hour class held on a weekend.
This course includes
* Guided instruction in mindfulness meditation practices
* Gentle stretching and mindful yoga
* Group discussion aimed at enhancing awareness in everyday life
* Review of physiological and psychological components of the stress cycle
* Skills for responding to specific types of stress
* Daily home assignments
* Home practice CDs
This course will teach you step-by-step how to tap in to a deep internal resource that is available and patiently waiting to be released and used in the service of learning, growing, and healing.
About the Instructor:
Anne Dutton, M.A., R.Y.T. teaches yoga, meditation and mind/body health. She has a private practice in New Haven specializing in stress-reduction and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. She is certified as a yoga teacher by the Yoga Alliance at the 500-hr. level. She received her first 200-hr. teaching certificate from YogaSpirit in 2005 and went on to complete a number of other teacher trainings. Her certifications include YogaSpirit 500-hr. Advanced Forrest Yoga, Level I and II Anusara Yoga, Anusara Therapeutics and Kripalu Advanced Pranayama. She has studied Restorative Yoga with Judith Lasater, Yin Yoga with Paul Grilley, progressive teaching with Betsey Downing and continues to regularly attend continuing education workshops with other nationally-known teachers. She assists YogaSpirit founder Kim Valeri with teacher training in Fairfield and is on the Advisory Board of YogaSpirit Studios. Her meditation training began in Japan where she studied for eight years with Zen master Yamada Koun. She has been a meditation practitioner for over thirty years and is a member of the Ring of Bone Zendo in California and the East Rock Sangha of New Haven. She maintains a regular schedule of silent retreats and has been serving as a leader since 1995. She was certified to teach MBSR by the University of Massachusetts Medical School and holds a graduate degree in Religious Studies.
